The APA has developed a guide for working with males. These guidelines suggest that men who are socialized to conform to traditional masculinity are often negatively affected in terms of both mental and physical health #toxicmasculinity #thisispublichealth ow.ly/JCHE30nhjTL

It's not a coincidence that the APA (American Psychological Association) came out just last week (Jan. 7th), with this: "Traditional Masculinity Can Hurt Boys, Say New A.P.A. Guidelines" This is top-down social engineering across all levels of society! https:// nyti.ms/2RJInHC

There’s also a reaction to the growing anti-male (and especially anti-white-male) tenor in our culture. “I’ve had enough” is the attitude. French doesn’t mention this which is interesting considering the APA guidelines that just came out. https://www. google.com/amp/s/www.nyti mes.com/2019/01/10/science/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.amp.html   …

Masculinity doesn’t hurt boys, extremes hurt them (and everyone else). The @APA conflating complex norms with specific extremes is malpractice. We should raise red flags around extreme behaviors specifically, not words with subjective & complex meaning. https:// nyti.ms/2Fspjax

A new APA report stresses the importance of expanding the norms and "emotional repertoires" that are associated with men and boys, and the benefits reaped from giving boys space to express social and emotional needs. @JaceyFortin has more https://www. nytimes.com/2019/01/10/sci ence/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.html   …

These APA guidelines AREN'T challenging the inherent nature of men, but opening a dialogue about A FEW SOCIALLY IMPOSED heteronormic male traits that are, by all accounts, toxic to the human experience. The report DOES NOT infer that masculinity is wrong: https:// nyti.ms/2RJInHC

You know what else can hurt boys? Being undesirable to girls. https://www. nytimes.com/2019/01/10/sci ence/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.html   …

This is how it works all too often. Agenda-driven researchers produce a spurious report. Then credulous reporters take it seriously. In this case, the ⁦@nytimes⁩ reporter didn’t even bother to seek out a single critic. https://www. nytimes.com/2019/01/10/sci ence/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.html   …

“Men may avoid seeking help from others—including psychologists—to avoid looking weak. Even when men do seek help, they’re often misdiagnosed w/ outward-facing issues—ie substance abuse—rather than internalized disorders like depression.” ⁦@nytimes⁩ https://www. nytimes.com/2019/01/10/sci ence/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.html   …

“We see that men have higher suicide rates, more cardiovascular disease and are lonelier as they get older. We’re trying to help men by expanding their emotional repertoire, not trying to take away the strengths that men have.” More from @nytimes... https://www. nytimes.com/2019/01/10/sci ence/apa-traditional-masculinity-harmful.html   …
