The new Ian McEwan novel, “Machines Like Me,” about a ménage à trois between a man, a woman and a sexy male robot, is pretty good. It’s good enough that, were it published under a pseudonym, the world ...

nobody: Ian McEwan: i just invented a fiction that deals with sciencey stuff. wish there was a word for it, can't believe some nerd didn't get here first. anyway, what if machines looked like us?????? nobody is asking the important questions!! fuck i'm a genius
At the center of Ian McEwan’s at times disappointing new novel Machines Like Me is a triad: Charlie Friend, our narrator; Miranda, his girlfriend; and Adam, their personal robot. That the robot is by ...

What must it be like to be just so white and so wealthy and so male as to think that just because you decided to write a science fiction book, you obviously invented the whole of science fiction? Ian McEwan IS that guy. https:// twitter.com/pattonoswalt/s tatus/1117811828501860353   …
Half a century ago, Philip K. Dick asked, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and now Ian McEwan is sure those androids are pulling the wool over our eyes. His new novel, Machines Like Me, takes ...

I guess the best thing about that Ian McEwan quote in the @guardian is that Iain Banks savagely dunked on it in the @guardian eight years ago. https://www. theguardian.com/books/2011/may /13/iain-banks-science-fiction-genre   …

Ian McEwan seems to think writing a novel about the autonomy of a created being is a revolutionary act in the sci-fi genre...a genre which was [checks notes] invented by a 19-year-old girl 200 years ago when she wrote Frankenstein, a novel about the autonomy of a created being.

I am sitting in the pub with Gene Wolfe, waiting to ask for his autograph and having a laugh at Ian McEwan's expense.

Genius. Ian McEwan has done it again—a writer tackling the issue of whether a robot might SEEM human, in a LITERARY novel. I just can't believe no one has ever thought of it before. Hats off to you, sir.

Lots of people rightly ripping the piss out of that Ian McEwan piece in The Guardian, but there's another one in The Herald that's almost as bad https://www. heraldscotland.com/arts_ents/1757 2514.back-to-the-future-ian-mcewans-new-novel-about-ai-is-set-in-a-fictional-1982-in-which-alan-turing-still-lives-and-the-beatles-are-still-together/   …

Ian McEwan accidentally wanders into a Philosophy MA seminar: 'Guys, I'm not really interested in philosophy books but think about this: how do you even know if what you're experiencing is even real? BOOM, you're welcome.' Strolls out. Guardian runs a 2-page interview.

This new Ian McEwan opera sounds wild. "I wanted to write an opera. Obviously I never listen to opera because it's all crap but I had this idea for two doomed young lovers, a duel and a fat lady singing a really high note and I thought: nobody's ever done that before so I will."
